When & where it all began
Plain Pain was initiated by Wahhib (vocals & guitar) in late 2018. Already familiar with Adyt (lead vocals & bass)—his college senior who shared a similar music taste—the two connected creatively. The name Plain Pain, suggested by Adyt, symbolises a peak level of suffering: when pain becomes so overwhelming that it begins to feel numb and plain.
Soon after, Joe (drums) joined and contributed significantly to the creation of the Shambles – EP. Joe and Adyt had been best friends since elementary school and had played together in previous bands (Street Sign, Secret Society), creating a strong and natural chemistry.
Before the debut EP’s release, however, Wahhib stepped away in 2020 to focus on his escalating college workload. His exit left Adyt and Joe without direction, though they continued making music casually.
To keep the project alive, Haqqu (guitar)—a former Street Sign bandmate—and Bobby (guitar) joined the lineup. The four began recording Plain Pain’s first full-length studio album. After several rehearsals and tracking sessions, Haqqu later departed for personal reasons.
Following a string of good shows and while the album was nearing completion, Joe parted ways with the band as well. This left only Adyt and Bobby to finish what the original four had started.
The current formation
In late 2023, Oyax (drums) joined—bringing prior experience from Tangerang punk rock outfit Minimal Errorism—and Wahhib briefly re-joined the band as guitarist, restoring part of the group’s original foundation. Wahhib’s return was short-lived, however; he left again not long after rejoining. Their brief reunion nonetheless helped refocus the band as they prepared the next phase. Despite Oyax’s later interstate move, Adyt and Bobby continued to drive the project forward.
Despite all the lineup turbulence over the years, the band pushed through diligently—spending three years preparing their upcoming full-length album, Blessings in Disguise. The record represents their most ambitious effort yet, crafted with the intention of delivering the most complete, precise, and emotionally resonant version of their sound.
Plain Pain hopes this long-prepared album will deliver a set of “perfect tunes” that fully embody the stories they’ve wanted to tell since the beginning.
This duo promise nothing but tear-jerking lyrics and fun shows.
